Hear ye, hear ye Citizens of the Palace. By Imperial Decree on behalf of Our Lord of Vengeance, may he reign eternal, this newsletter is created to keep our people of the Penumbra Eternal informed. This channel serves as a monthly post bringing you the most important news updates from around the world to your front door. As always, we encourage our readers to steer clear of high-conflict zones. Our spies risk their lives so you don’t have to, and this is their report:
Mesdev
Oastark Dirast, High Inquisitor of the Palahani region attempted to create a mandatory military draft. The attempt was largely seen as a desperate attempt to arm the civilian population against the empire. Once the empire provided amnesty to its own people dodging the draft, however, Oastark’s powerbase quickly bled away until he was dispatched by assassins in the night. The empire celebrates the death of a traitor even as a rebel army pushed into Palahan and captured High Inquisitor Lex Nalorax. The Grand Imperial army made quick work of those poor unfortunate souls and restored Lex to his lofted positon as our favorite wartime chief. An experiment regarding the pacification of demonic entities failed over the last month, seeing a horde of demonic power rush forth from the Burning Sands to plunder the souls of out people. The empire was unable to save the laboratory cities of Devland before they were lost to the rampaging horde. The Foreign Legion, led by Julienne Verdeaux, tried its best to push back the demons from Alsatia, but they were crushed by the invaders. Inevitably, our own Grand Imperial Army was triumphant in our vengeant strike against the demon hordes. We of the empire were shocked and appalled to learn that the laboratory cities were conducting heinous experiments on Ulceore, an unprotected race in Imperial Law. But they are unprotected in our streets no longer! A new Imperial Mandate was released extending Imperial protection to the Ulceore, but not all citizens seem to be enthused with that development. Many are horrified at the thought of a rogue Ulceore consuming their minds when they go to sleep at night. Still, a recent experiment with cloned bodies may serve as a momentary solution for keeping the Ulceore alive without killing others.
On the other side of the empire, in Nalorax, our Grand imperial Army annihilated another demon army surging forward from the Burning Sands. Our very own Hierarch of the empire Glamzalf made an appearance swinging the fabled Realmsword at the villainous demons. In an instant, the whole force plaguing our people was destroyed. In their place, a strange rift of celestial energy remains behind. So far none have returned from the great rift that emerged at the core of Nalorax. With the demons defeated on both sides of the empire, we reclaimed the lost territories of Devland and Quirrim Crescent. A local queen, Quizottle, was elevated to the lofty position of High Inquisitor.
In the aftermath, Xerxes the technomancer flew throughout the empire and restored our lost soldiers and citizens to life with the mechanimen disease. For his efforts in saving our dead, Xerxes stands poised to become the new High Inquisitor of the Alsatia region. As his first act, Xerxes seized the Chateau Pressentiment university after a cataclysmic eruption of arcane energy was reportedly causing unparalleled damage to the campus. Martial law is being enforced in the Alsatia region until the perpetrators are caught.

The city of Reva-Tiran was reportedly invaded by Perdition from the Affliction within their home. Devils marched free to bring their infernal rule to the Reva-Terani living within the Highmark district of the city. While all eyes were on the devil threat, a small strike force of roguish types murdered a beloved magic shopkeeper in the harbor district of Silverwind. Law enforcement officials are hard-pressed to discover who committed the act.
Oetien
The survivors of a shipwreck under the black tides of the sea found themselves thrust into the beast worlds of Parawere. There they defeated planar hunters killing beasts for sport. When they returned to the mortal realm, they left behind a frost dragon who had begun to lord over a colony treasure ants. At the core of Oetien they discovered a dark menace channeling corruption throughout the seas. At the time, it had seemed that no mortal weapon or arcane power could stop the dynamic weather system spreading the darkness throughout the ocean. The darkness brought them into hallowheart, where the group successfully purged the corruption present within. Finally, the great tree can re-enter the living realm to walk amongst the mortal realm once more. However, in doing so, they also unleashed the lich that was trapped within as well as the necrotic magic of undeath lingering behind its insane eyes.

Early reports suggest that one of Diogenes' soul cairns was destroyed by Varul and a band of interlopers that may have joined with Varul's Disciple. Stunned spies report that the lich may have begun to conduct a meeting with The Raven Queen, once pronounced to be his nemesis.
Umbrage Isles
The city of Otari, once plagued by an endless war between Seilie creatures and humanity, chose to put down its weapons and accept both creatures into its city center. The Raitian Emperor would not have it, however. They sent Raitian imperial troops marching to reclaim their city, but the soldiers never arrived since they were destroyed by a rogue band of adventurers and a dark ethereal spirit. The roads are rumored to be further imperiled by wandering Seilie wights created from a corrupted entity from the dark side of that realm, too.
